WRAGS works in partnership with Sleep Country Canada and The Brick to provide mattresses to those in need. We believe it is important that WRAGS be accountable to its members, employees and the community at large and as such encourage comments and suggestions.
Mattresses provided by Sleep Country and The Brick are stored in WRAGS' warehouse and are available to the public. In addition, WRAGS is concerned about the environment and works with The Brick to ensure the mattresses that are not in good condition are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
OUR HISTORY
WRAGS Mandate
WRAGS is a non-profit organization incorporated in November 1992 whose mandate is to assist people in need. It was created to provide advocacy services at no cost to low income persons. WRAGS has expanded and been refined over the years. In the late 1990s, WRAGS partnered with Sleep Country Canada to provide beds free of charge to those in need.
Advocacy Closure
On December 31, 2002, the WRAGS advocacy program was sadly forced to close down due to government cut backs to funding for these programs. After many attempts to regain funding through government and other programs, WRAGS was unable to secure the necessary funding to keep the advocacy program operating.
OUR GOALS
Recycling Program
WRAGS has been developing a recycling program for beds no longer in a condition for re-use. While WRAGS has dramatically reduced the number of beds going to landfills, there remain many that still find their way to the dump. We continue to seek new sources for re-used beds which might otherwise find their way to landfills and examine ways to break down beds not suitable for re-use so that their individual components can be recycled. This will be a continual ongoing exercise.
Reaching Out
WRAGS is also currently looking at possible ways to work with other charities and non-profit groups to expand our services or situations where there may be synergies between different groups.
